São José do Rio Preto - Brazil
The project area is located in the southeast of São José do Rio Preto, 440km from the city of São Paulo. It’s a new area close by the Yguatemy Shopping Centre.
For one of the largest and most important Brazilians business groups and for a hotel chain with more than 4.800 rooms in Brazil, we carried out a feasibility study for a corporate complex of 30.000 m2 including offices, a hotel, parking, restaurants and shops.
The complex has been designed so that two rectangular blocks are placed on the corner of the terrain. The main structure is a base for both buildings with shops and three-storey parking garage. The only connection between the two blocks is a car bridge placed on all the three levels of the garage. Each block has its own programme starting from the 4th floor. One block is designed for a hotel with 11 floors and a penthouse with restaurant and swimming pool, the other with 13 floors for offices and a penthouse for meeting and conference rooms.
The architecture of the facades is composed by a three dimensional aluminium elements that give to the simple building blocks an enormous plastic effect changing constantly according to the way light reflects on the elements. The penthouse floors have a double height and a free shaped roof giving the buildings a special top in the city skyline.
Both buildings share a main entrance designed with a huge height where the car bridges can be seen from the interior. The lobby goes all through the building connecting the front side to the garden in the back.
Special attention has been giving to the landscape design of the terrain behind the blocks. Since this area should also be a parking area and everyone in the building look on it, we combined the rainwater storage with a suspended garden. This structure protects the car from the warm sunny days and it’s at the same time a “painting” to the ones looking trough the building windows. The garden can be used to produce crop for the hotel restaurant.
